When Charles and Ray Eames designed the Eames Aluminum Management Chair, they created a revolution in seating that has lost none of its edge. Moving away from the Eameses' shell forms of the 1940s, the designers combined a newly affordable aluminum frame with a sling seat that subtly conforms to the body's shape.

These quintessential modern chairs – originally developed as a special project for a private residence being designed by Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard – are now available with white or black leather upholstery and lightweight chrome frames.

Charles Ormond Eames, Jr (1907–1978) and Bernice Alexandra "Ray" Eames (1912–1988)

Eames were American designers, who worked in and made major contributions to modern architecture and furniture. They also worked in the fields of industrial and graphic design, fine art and film.

From the beginning, the Eames furniture has usually been listed as by Charles Eames, indeed in the 1948 and 1952 Herman Miller bound catalogs, only Charles' name is listed, but it has become clear that Ray was deeply involved and should be considered an equal partner.

The Eames fabrics were mostly designed by Ray, as were the Time Life Stools. In 1979, the Royal Institute of British Architects awarded Charles and Ray with the Royal Gold Medal.
